These records relate to the administration and production of the London Weekend Television/Channel Four/Black Theatre Co-operative television series No Problem! (1983 – 1985). The series was written by Mustapha Matura and Farrukh Dhondy and created by the Black Theatre Co-operative. This was the first sitcom to be broadcast on Britain's new Channel 4 TV station to address the lifestyle of the British black community with a storyline “about kids who take over the council house when their parents trip back to Jamaica”. Black Theatre Co-op had collectively worked on the script during a four-week workshop. Matura and Dhondy developed the characters suggested by Shope Shodeinde, while Charlie Hanson produced and Nic Phillips directed the three series commissioned by Humphrey Barclay, Head of Comedy at London Weekend Television.
